Should You Have A Garden Arbor?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Garden arbors are structures that can serve several purposes. Garden arbors can double as a trellis or you can get them with boxes on the sides to plant flowers in. Your arbor can define a pathway or different sections of the garden. You can find arbors with seating in them for a relaxing spot to sit in during a long day of working out in your garden. After planting, weeding, and watering it is great to have a place to sit and relax and enjoy all the work you have done on your garden. Homeowners and gardeners alike are bringing garden arbors and garden benches into their outdoor living spaces. It is nice to have a different area to spend some time in besides the inside of the home. Outdoor structures and furniture make this not only possible but comfortable also. Arbors can be constructed of wood, metal, or plastic. It all depends on what you need in an arbor. You could use your arbor to as a trellis for climbing plants. Maybe you have a section in your garden devoted specifically to growing a certain type of plant. At the entry point to a section you might put an arbor with some climbing roses on it to indicate that section is for roses. You may have a section for cut flowers to adorn your table for special meal or party.

Arbor shapes and sizes may vary greatly so make be sure you take careful measurements before going out to buy an arbor. You may buy an arbor from a local home center but they are not very high quality arbors and may only last a short time. When deciding to purchase any outdoor decor such as an arbor or a bench make sure to consider the amount of time you are planning to have the item with you. If you are looking for a long lasting product you may want to consider buying a high quality item and plan on paying a little more money for that item. Well constructed arbors are built out of a heavy guage steel or some type of weather resistant wood like Cedar or Teak or Eucalyptus. If you decide on a wooden arbor you have to plan on a wood preservative treatment each season to help protect your investment. Most of the steel arbors now are powder coated to help protect the surface from the weather.

Garden arbors add a decorative as well as be a useful element to yards, pathways and gardens. They allow you to increase the size of your garden by giving you new growing surfaces in vertical directions, and they create a focal point that draws the eye toward an  area of interest. Garden arbors are not only a fun and easy way to spice up the look of any outdoor space but practical also.

If Space Is A Problem, Try These Tips

A perennial problem for couples with growing kids is space. As the family grows, we fill up the house until we run out of space. Here are a few things you can do to make space in your home.

Take a good hard look at your kitchen, because it is the most important room in the house. You don’t have to buy an expensive new kitchen in order to make it work for you again. There are things you can do that cost little or nothing at all.

Go into your kitchen and remove absolutely everything from every drawer and cupboard. Then turn around and put them back. However, as you’re doing that, think about where to put them. Have you ever noticed how much dead space there is between the plates and bowls you keep in a cupboard and the next shelf up? Those shelves are usually adjustable, but because you’ve only got one adjustable shelf, that all you’ve ever used. Measure the length of that one shelf and go out and buy another one. You have just doubled the amount of space you have in one cupboard.

Now what you have to do is eliminate the things you never use. Old rice cookers usually stay packed away in the recesses of a corner cupboard because they often turned out to be less efficient than simply boiling rice. If you’ve got one of those, give it to your local thrift store. Somebody will be able to put it to good use.

Now that you have finished that part of the job, you will probably find that you have a great deal of extra space in your kitchen. Treat yourself to a few new small appliances to make your life easier. Get a new Sanyo rice cooker, for example, that is appropriate for your needs. When you’re all done, you will love your kitchen again.

A bedroom that was adequate for a small child becomes more and more cramped as the child gets older. Sometimes it’s so frustrating you just tell the child to clean up his room. There’s no other solution you can think of. There is, however. A twin loft bed is an instant way to add a great deal of floor space to a child’s bedroom.

There are two principles at work here. One is that you need to use the vertical space more efficiently. The other is that you have to eliminate all the deadwood in your home. Do these things and you will find that you will love your home again.
