Find A College That Best Fits Your Passions

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Preparing to go to college can be an exciting time. However, before you actually settle down on a final college, there are a number of things you have to do beforehand! Finding the right school for your college experience can be a difficult task. So, the sooner you start your pursuit, the better. Starting early can help you cover all the necessary steps, while you get used to the process.

Is there a particular field you are interested in studying? If so, you can seek schools that cater to your particular interest. For example, if you are passionate about photography and your canon digital slr camera, you may consider a school geared toward the arts.

Knowing what you want to pursue as a career or major can help you find a college that offers this field. Finding a school that specializes in your area of interest can help you pursue your interest to the fullest. If you are interested in the sciences, you probably will not choose a school specializing in the arts and vice versa.

Set up a criteria list that will help you narrow your options. For instance, is it important to you to be able to go home at night and heat up homemade meals in your family kitchen’s countertop microwave? If living at home is important to you, you will want to find schools that are close to home.

Maybe you are interested in living in the city, or a rural setting? What about paying for college? These are also important factors to consider when compiling your list of applicable schools.

Use the internet to help you find schools of interest to you. There are a number of websites geared toward helping teens find schools that are right for them. When you are interested in a school, visit their website. A school site will probably have a section for prospective students. In this section you will find all the information you need on majors, student body and campus life.

If visiting the schools you are interested in online isn’t enough for you, call and schedule a campus visit. Most schools are accommodating with their visitors policy. Keep in mind that although you may be moving away from the cozy comforts of your homes over the range microwave, you can look forward to pursuing your academic interests.
