Packing Your Suit Case

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

You’re about to head to the beach to have a nice vacation. Although the current forecast is hot and sunny, it’s common for thunderstorms in the summer there. Do you pack something warm for every day just in case and end up over your weight allowance at the airport, or wing it and hope it doesn’t turn cold?

Packing the right clothes for a new destination is fraught with difficulty. If you are shopping you want to make sure you have enough room in your suitcase, but you also want to be prepared for anything. Creative use of clothes and a little planning are all you should need.

You are probably planning on spending a fair amount of time on the beach if your hotel is seaside. During the day you will probably be wearing mostly swimsuits, sandals, shorts and wraps. Seaside resorts tend to be a lot more casual than inland areas, and if it is a popular holiday destination, they will be quite used to tourists wandering around in swimwear for most of the day.

You can probably pull of a tank top and skirt, or wrap, if it is warmer in the evenings. A wrap to throw over your shoulders is a good idea, in case it gets chilly. A thin shawl can’t double as a swimsuit cover, but can work for evening wear. You can easily take shorts from day to evening by adding nice sandals and a belt.

You should make sure to pack at least one water resistant coat that is warm, in case it gets cool or rains. Trousers are a good call in case it doesn’t stay warm, you can also use pantyhose to make them feel warmer if necessary. A pair of jeans works well, and can be jazzed up with a pretty sarong used as a belt or tied at the hip.

Swimsuits and sarongs are great since they are easy to pack and wash and dry overnight, and they can be worn both day and night. Mix and match so you don’t pack too many items, and remember that a few well chosen accessories can really dress up an outfit to take you from day to night without taking up much space in your luggage.

With the extensive weather reports found online nowadays, you should be able to see what the weather is likely to be for at least the forthcoming week. Of course weather reports can be wrong, so make sure you are prepared for any weather. If nothing else, you can always buy some new clothes there!

The earthquake registered 4.5 on the Richter scale and was felt in the early afternoon by Eilat residents, although it did not cause any casualties or damage. This earthquake joins the annals of history of quakes in Israel. In April this year, a quake measured 3 on the Richter scale near to Kfar Hasidim. Three weeks previously a quake hit the north also measuring 3 on the scale. In November 1995, one Israeli died of a heart attack, and 13 people were hospitalized when an earthquake ranging between 5.7 and 7.2 on the Richter scale struck the Red Sea region. That quake affected Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. That tremor, caused by shifts in the tectonic plates of the Syrian-African Rift, was possibly the most powerful earthquake in Israel since 1927, when some 400 people were killed in Jericho.
