How do you know which type of wood/tree to select? I know its a survival bow but you may aswell choose the best wood that you can all the same.
that storm is really bad here at fort drum
Have you ever used cordage for backing?

sharp tools makes all the difference. your edge should be able to “bite” even the hardest woods

Hey Dave! Man I live just close enough to you here in WV to know how crummy that weather really was! Listening to that cold rain was enough to chill you to the bone! — Great stuff!!!
I plan on starting my first bow soon. I found an awesome hickory that should be perfect.

Beware of saying Ready. Are you sure? Read “The Road.”
Okay, been sharping tools for a long time, never seen it done like that… I think the Japanese like to draw things toward them, no doubt they know a thing or two about sharping steel… I’d cut off a finger.
files dont work like sand paper. push them into the object you are cutting. dont see saw back and forth, ruins the file
Hey Dave. Although I hate trying to stay dry in the rain, I had to park my 4-wheel drive at the bottom of the hill and walk home in 18 inches of snow 2 nights in a row. And it was -3 degrees this morning. Talk about “colder than a mother-in-law’s kiss. Did you check out that axe at Sprotsman’s Guide?
If one way be better than another, that you may be sure is nature’s way.

i made the bow, but then it broke after 10nth shot so yeah
Its 75 degrees and sunny. Southern California
Thanks for sharing…
My second bow (which I made yesterday) had a knot in the same place. I didn’t have a problem with the knot but unfortunately I didn’t shave off enough on one of the limbs and it broke on me.
It would have made a good bow (aside from the wormholes) since it was 65” and pulled fully to 28” but it was just 1 to many pull of the string to cause it to snap.
Thanks for the great videos, you have taught me a lot about making my own bow.
