Cockroaches are one of the most difficult pests to deal with. Not only are they extremely resistance to certain extermination methods, but they also have the ability to quickly adapt to new environments. The fact that they prefer warm areas makes our homes an ideal place for them to nest. Inside a shoe or a humid bathroom can be one of their favorite locations. Roaches are only about an inch long. However, their spiky hind legs and antennas make them seem bigger than they really are. A life span of a cockroach is normally a year with the first three months as a developmental stage from an egg to an adult. A single female cockroach lays eggs about eight times in their entire life producing approximately 300-400 offspring. Since they can reproduce at a very fast rate, it is crucial for homeonwers to take preventative measures as soon as possible.

Besides their ability to reproduce at a very fast rate, cockroaches can also quickly adapt to new environments. For example, cockroaches can survive for three months without any food or water. Furthermore, they are highly resistant to plain old insecticides. Yet, here is a list of short-term solutions you can implement to get rid of immediate cockroach problems:

· Apply pesticides that specifically targets cockroaches

· Make homemade roach traps and place them in areas where roach activity has been observed. These traps can be easily made at home by pouring an inch of water into a jar or a deep container.

· Apply boric acid to potential cockroach harborage areas. For instance, basement windows or basement drains are suitable areas.

· Use a pesticide ‘fogger’ or a ‘bomb’ product

· Install electronic emitters that can put of high frequency noises that can deter cockroaches

· Install sticky traps. However, due to the fact that cockroaches can survive up to three months without water and food, homeowners will most likely discover a live roach in these traps.
