A lot of people like to use cedar chips in their garden, but over time being exposed to the elements they lose their natural colour and lighten considerably. However, there is now a synthetic woodchip you can use that will keep its colour a lot longer than the natural variety.
Many people like to incorporate bushes into their landscaping design. This is usually for privacy reasons. Be aware that bushes need pruning regularly if you are considering having them as well. If you do not have this done, the bushes can get too large and cumbersome.
Your climate should always be a main consideration when planning your landscaping designs. If you live in a climate that is temperate throughout the year, you have more of an advantage in terms of planting flowers that will last more than one season.
