Essential Steps To Bamboo Fountain Construction

A bamboo fountain offers a great way to add mystical accent to your garden.  This interesting fountain hails from Japan where it was created by rice farmers as a way to scare deer away from the rice paddies.  It isn’t difficult to understand that they were called “deer chasers”.

In the past, monks would use the bamboo fountain as a method for measuring the length of their mediations.  In a time when more people are concerned about their affect on the environment, the bamboo fountain is an ecologically friendly material option.  Still, the bamboo fountain possesses a simple design and charm that attracts people.  Another perk is that the bamboo fountain is flexible enough to use indoors as well as outside.

If you want to build your own bamboo fountain, all you need are few simple components.  You will need bamboo, tubing, a pump, a base, rod, screws, and container.  If you are building an outdoor bamboo fountain, it is wise to use a quality bamboo that will not break under variable weather conditions.  When the bamboo fountain will be used inside, you may want to make it more attractive by polishing the surface.  Other tools needed to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

Once you’re ready to build, you should begin by cutting the bamboo sticks to the right length.  You should have three big bamboo sticks.  A stick will hold the nozzle while two other will hold the moving piece on the bamboo fountain.  The moving part of the fountain is the required in your bamboo fountain since it is responsible for collecting the water and emptying it as the weight of the collected water increases.  All three bamboo pieces will need to have holes drilled through the centers.  These holes will accommodate the rod that allows the fountain to pivot.

You will take the pipe and link it from your water pump and up through the bamboo stick.  The top of the pipe is fitted with a bamboo nozzle.  Everything should then be mounted onto a base.  Your bamboo fountain is properly built when water coming out of the nozzle falls inside the moving part of the fountain.

If you’re kind of person who would rather someone else did it, then you may prefer purchasing a bamboo fountain kit from your building supply store.

It is good to know how to do maintenance on your bamboo, should you build one.  Care and maintenance deal in two basic areas.  The first is how you care for the water pump.  You need to have the water pump below the surface of your retaining pool when running.  Don’t forget to clean the pump regularly.  The second aspect of bamboo fountain care is scheduled water replacement.  If your bamboo fountain is on all the time, you won’t have to change it as often but it is still good to keep on a schedule to avoid smell, stagnant water.
